Join an international yacht racing team

by Claire Kennard on 30 Sep 2004
More and more ordinary people with no previous ocean racing experience are competing in tough yacht races, pitting themselves against the elements and other experienced race crews.

For adventurous individuals who dream of excitement and challenge, of discovering the extreme highs and desperate lows of racing on the unforgiving oceans and of experiencing world-wide racing at its best, Global Yacht Racing offers an ambitious package of ocean yacht racing that will sort the men from the boys.

The package that Global Yacht Racing is offering differs from the racing that is already available.

Many UK and European and Australian races are available to those willing to pay with a host of yacht race charter companies, sailing schools and corporate sailing companies.

Global Yacht Racing is not a sailing school or a charter company, our focus is on racing. The emphasis at Global Yacht Racing is on training a team which will race together over the course of one or two years to compete in the most exciting and famous yachting events world wide.

The yacht racing campaigns involve commitment and above all teamwork, Global Yacht Racing carries no passengers, and trains to win. A full and ongoing training programme designed by professional sailors with a track record in race training ensures the team competes to the best of their abilities.

Global Yacht Racing’s world wide racing program is called Team Global. It offers ordinary individuals the opportunity to become part of an outstanding yacht racing team, campaigning in major yacht races around the globe.

Crew can choose either a one year or a two year package of racing taking part in major events in the yachting calendar. The races and regattas entered are high profile, well known world wide races including the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, The Rolex Fastnet Race, Skandia Cowes week, Ford Cork Week and The Rolex Middle Sea Race.

Team Global represents a unique sailing challenge. Crew train and race as one team competing on the world racing circuit against professionals on a range of different yachts chosen to suit each event. Team Global isn’t about one race or one yacht, it’s about one team.

Training and racing takes place on top quality performance yachts chosen to suit each race or regatta. For example, the Global Yacht Racing entry for the 2004 Sydney to Hobart race is on a Sydney 60, a well-known design with a respected track record in Australian offshore races.

Qualified and experienced skippers and crew will train, motivate and lead the team to the highest possible success.

If you’ve ever looked at a sleek race boat and dreamed of rising to the challenge of racing across oceans and pitting yourself against tough competition, then find out what you are truly capable of onboard Team Global.

Stop wondering what it’s like to do the Fastnet, the Hobart, the ARC or Cork Week and Take Your Place!

Global Yacht Racing’s next major race is a the gruelling 630nm ocean race from Sydney to Hobart This year is the 60th anniversary of the legendary race which has become a summer icon in Australia and with an adrenaline filled fleet already lined up, the start looks set to be spectacular. There are still limited places available with the team aboard Eureka II, a Sydney 60 race yacht.

Global Yacht Racing is offering a very competitively priced individual package for this year’s Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Andy Middleton, Director of Global Yacht Racing said ‘We are passionate about giving ordinary people the chance to race in great offshore races and I am pleased to say that our latest race package is priced well within the grasp of many of our customers. We don’t have a crew full of rock stars or millionaires!’

The crew list for Hobart is almost finalised and there are some very experienced and ambitious sailors on it. However, Global Yacht Racing offers their race packages to anyone who is fit and up for the ultimate challenge.

This company was formed to provide people from all walks of life who have a passion for excitement access to yacht racing's premier events.

Price for this year’s Rolex Sydney-Hobart is £5000GPB Approx $12000 AUS.
