E-G13 - RYA Powerboat Handbook RYA
Purchase the new edition of the RYA Powerboat Handbook and enjoy a Special Bundle Discount of 25% when you buy both the print and eBook versions of this title together.

The RYA Powerboat Handbook has been a best-seller for the RYA since its launch in 2005 and now in its third edition the title is crammed full of new images and updated with new information on electronic navigation and handling at speed.

Rachel Andrews, Chief Instructor Motor Cruising and Power commented: “In the years between the last edition of the RYA Powerboat Handbook and the new one there have been a substantial number of technological and safety-related advances. In some instances, new electronically controlled throttle systems are replacing cable ones, hydraulic steering is more common, and there is increasing awareness of seating positions around powerboats to reduce the risk of injury. This new edition covers all of these developments. Additionally, an increasing number of boaters are using their RYA Powerboat qualifications commercially, and the book gives advice on your responsibilities as a commercial skipper.

“The greatest change has come in the sheer number of electronic navigation devices now available. Being able to passage plan using an electronic chartplotter and paper charts is now an essential skill, as it’s important that you are not left at the mercy of a power failure! Naturally, the new edition of the RYA Powerboat Handbook carries up-to-date advice on how and why you should undertake this, using both new electronic aids and traditional methods. There is also new information on how to find weather forecasts, both from online and through older sources.”

Written by RYA Powerboat Instructor Trainer and Examiner, Paul Glatzel, the RYA Powerboat Handbook is aimed at those with some experience of powerboating who wish to further develop their knowledge and confidence afloat.

The examples throughout the book bring concepts to life and methods are adapted to what is realistically achievable in an open powerboat. Chapters include:

• Propellers
• Safety and Planning
• Travelling at Speed
• Challenging Conditions
• Boating at Night and in Restricted Visibility
• Cruising in a Powerboat
