Last night Hamilton Island Yacht Club hosted the launch of the Bavaria 42 Match, the newest member of the Match family.
The 38 Match, which was launched in Australia last October, has been making her mark on the Australian sailing scene with regular podium finishes. The 38 and 42 Match boats are leading the charge by Bavaria yachts to provide a production boat that is multi purpose for those who want a competitive boat when racing in handicap divisions, but can also be enjoyed in cruising mode as well.
Queenslander Robbo Robertson has been putting the new boat through her paces on the north Queensland tour, racing at Hog’s Breath Race Week and Hahn Premium Hamilton Island Race Week.
Robbo has a full programme planned for the boat over the next 12 months ‘I’m really pleased with the new boat and am looking forward to doing well in IRC divisions during the summer racing season,’ Robbo commented at the launch.
Racing in the hotly contested IRC division against the maxi’s; Skandia and Konica Minolta, the Match series boats are holding their own. Tony Kirby’s Game Set took third place in the Coral Sea race on Sunday and15th in Saturday’s Molle Island race. After two days of racing the 38 Match is placed in the top 10 of the IRC division.
The Hahn Premium Series at Hamilton Island continues with four days of racing still to be contested. Bavaria yachts are racing in all divisions, the most popular being the 90 boat Cruising Class.
