SSANZ Safety at Sea Triple Series - 127 boats have now entered the Short Handed Sailing Association of New Zealand’s (SSANZ) Triple Series and SSANZ are delighted to welcome back NZ Rigging as the race day sponsor.
The first race of the most popular Two Handed series in New Zealand is this weekend, with the forecast looking a bit wet and windy.
Contested over nine divisions, the NZ Rigging 60 race around the Hauraki Gulf caters for a diverse fleet of multihulls and keelers from Awen (Open 60) to Tackhammer (Tiller 6.5m sports boat). The closest racing is likely to be in the Young 88 and Farr 1020 division with nine Young 88s and nine 1020s battling it out for line honours. Freshly returned from the Auckland – Fiji race both Anarchy (YD37) and Crusader (Elliott 35ss) will be adjusting to the colder weather and less crew. The 11 multi-hulls should provide some exciting racing as well in the fresh conditions.
Based on the current forecast as of 2200hrs on Thursday July 7, 2016 it would seem that a cancellation is likely with strong easterly winds predicted for both Saturday and Sunday.
Wind maps are from the new Predictwind feature which provides a more graphical presentation and and be viewed in this format after taking a few seconds to load.
Stay tuned for updates.
