Wakatere's McCutcheon takes Tanner + Tauranga double using Doyle power

by Richard Gladwell Sail-World.com on 15 Jan 2016 Robbie McCutcheon of Wakatere Boating Club, has taken the double of P class world with wins in the Tanner and Tauranga Cups in the same year.

McCutcheon scored a good win in the Tanner Cup - sailed with one boat representing each port/province in New Zealand. Campbell Stanton (RNZYS) was second with Josh Berry (GYC) in third. McCutcheon represented Wanganui/ Manawatu and won three of the seven races and counted top three placings only in his net points.

It was s similar result in the Tauranga Cup with McCutcheon only scoring one win but a string of placing in the top six sailing in a 37 boat fleet. James Sheldon was second and Caleb Armit third.

The prestigious regatta was sailed in the Bay of Islands and organised by Bay of Islands Yacht Club.

Wakatere BC has a good regatta with Francesco Kayrouz winning the Harry Highet Silver Salver (1st Invitation Race)
Alice Haslett won the Naomi James Trophy for first female with Lillie Brewer being awarded the Harken Trophy (second female) and she also won the Craig Monk Trophy (1st sailor 55kgs). Wakatere members also won the P Class club trophy, the Franklin Plumbing Trophy.

McCutcheon used a sail from Doyle Sails One Design loft in Auckland , and in a nice touch sailed the same P-Class once sailed by Andrew Brown, Doyle Sails One Design manager.
