Three races were scheduled for the day, to catch up racing lost on Wednesday. After launching an hour later than scheduled, the fleet were held up for a couple of hours waiting for the wind to settle and achieve consistent strength.

After a couple of general recall for premature starting Race 4 got underway with the fleet splitting into a left hand group led by John Junior (NZ) and the majority of the fleet going in the opposite direction heading across on port tack into the Rangitoto Channel, and to fight the tide.

However, as luck would have it, there was more wind in terms of pressure in the Channel, coupled with a very favourable shift, and it was the right hand group that emerged victorious.

Although buried in the fleet, defending World Champion Giles Scott (GBR) did an exemplary job of extricating himself, and finished in eighth place - his worst of the series.

Similar conditions prevailed for the second race of the day started in similar conditions to the first. Scott again sailed a very measured race to finish in fourth place.

Honours for the day belonged to Fabian Pic (FRA) who placed second in Race 4 and won Race 5 - another superb performance given that other highly accomplished sailors in the 76 strong fleet, had at least one poor performance, some two, racing in the very testing conditions.
