Hartley 16 North Island Champs - Title goes to Wellington

Racing was really tight on Lake Ngaroto for the 16 competitors who attended the North Island regatta, coming from Napier, Manukau, New Plymouth , Wellington, Wairoa and Ngaroto.
Light winds and hot sunny weather greeted the fleet, and when the wind finally turned up there was some great racing to be had. Shaking Laundry, Robin Williams and Mike Insley, Bizzare Gareth Insley and Tim Lynchblosse and Stratos Simon Holdt and Nathan McArthur were the front runners after four races on Day 1, but that was all to change on Day 2.
Again spending the morning waiting for wind, a very light breeze did come in and it was the Wellington boat Veloce Paul Davies and Konrad Weiver who won both races to claim the title after a count back from Shaking Laundry with Bizzare and Stratos close behind. The Ranking Handicap trophy was won by local boat Hesperus Milly Joseph & Thomas De Meijer.
It was a great weekend both on and off the water, and a big thanks must go to the Ngaroto Boat Club for their organisation. Good to see a couple of new owners turning out as well.
The Hartley 16 fleet now looks to the 50th National Championships to be hosted by the New Plymouth Yacht Club 13-16 January 2016. Thanks also to Burnsco, North Sails and Leisure Hamilton.
