Two Elan yachts have been chose to represent Britain at the esteemed Rolex Commodores Cup, which takes place in Cowes in England this July.

Quokka, Peter Rutter’s Elan 37 will sail in the Blue team, whilst another 37, Civils with Flair, owned by Jim MacGregor, will sail for the White team.

The pair had to face an extensive three weekends of trials with the best British boats on offer, sailed in a range of conditions that tested the skills of everyone vying for a place in each of the four three-boat teams.

These boats will sail against the best international teams worldwide, including the defending champions from France.

Chosen by the RYA Selection Committee after events including the Hamble Spring Series, Red Funnel Easter Regatta and the De Guingand Bowl, the RYA announced the teams.

Originating in Slovenia, Elan Yachts are rapidly moving onto the international scene. Over the last four years they produced six models ranging from 31 feet to 45 feet

Elan teamed with famous British designer, Rob Humphreys, the aim being to give the Elan range its ability to shine in both racing and cruising worlds – an increasingly popular market.

Humphreys' background includes Whitbread race yachts, designer of the BT Global Challenge boats and co-designer of Ellen Macarthur’s world renowned Open 60, Kingfisher. Cruising wise, Humphreys is the naval architect for Oyster Marine.

Elan and Humphreys will be celebrating their early successes; the Elan 37, launched only six month’s ago, is already a winner, with 100 boats on order.

Competitive sailing or cruising, the Elan 37 with optimised keel, rig and top quality deck gear delivers a top performance, safety with style, comfort and craftsmanship - all at exceptional value.

Both the Elan 37 and 40 proved their offshore performances recently, with a win and a second in the 300-mile Watski Two race in Norway. The Elan 40 crossed ahead of a strong 40-foot fleet while the Elan 37 was a clear winner on handicap.

The Elan 40 also won the prestigious Cruising World 2004 Boat of the Year Award for Best Performance 40 – Footer.

Navsail, Australia’s Elan Yachts distributor in Sydney, has already imported the Elan 40, the Elan 31 and Elan 333, while the first of their Elan 37’s will arrive in Melbourne later this year for a Royal Brighton Yacht Club member.
