by Sunfish Class on 18 Oct 2015
2015 Sunfish World Championship Matias Capizzano http://www.capizzano.com
Alexander Zimmermann of Peru is the 2015 World Champion. His spectacular score line included four race wins giving him a final 16 point cushion over his nearest competitor. The final two races of the series were sailed on Saturday to complete the eleven race series. Zimmermann was impressive in the early part of the series in the strong winds at the Paracas venue and showed equal strength in the lighter winds of the final day winning the last race to confirm his victory.

David Gonzalez Arria of Venezuela, winner of last week’s 2015 Sunfish Youth World Championship, concluded his run in Paracas with a second place overall finish at the World Championship. International Sunfish Class Chairman and past Sunfish World Champion, Paul-Jon Patin of the United States took the third podium position.

In all fifty three competitors from eleven countries participated in the forty fifth International Sunfish Class Association World Championship. The next world championship will be held in Cartagena, Colombia in October, 2016.

The 2015 Sunfish World and Youth World Championship was organized by the International Sunfish Class Association, the Peruvian Sailing Federation and the Peruvian Sunfish Class Association. This year’s championships were held in Paracas, Peru under the sponsorship of the Club de Regatas Lima, Yacht Club Peruano and the Peruvian Sports Institute.
