Greetings to all our readers from the Swedish East coast archipelago, where I am right now on a cruise from Stockholm to Copenhagen in the X-362 Sport yacht 'X-dream' - high pressure, sunshine, seabreeze - champagne sailing !

Extreme Sailing Series hits St. Petersburg – Races started on Thursday with Red Bull Racing Team on top of the leaderboard. Racing continues on River Neva in front of the Winter Palace until Sunday. Watch live right now on www.Sail-World.com

Sadly the Kiteboarding organisation wars continue - In an official statement sent today to the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) and 'Virgin Kiteboarding', the International Sailing Federation has confirmed that under the ISAF regulations, the IKA is entitled to award a specific set of World Championships and the sole right to hold these is granted to IKA.

It is further clarified, that ISAF will not grant permission for a World Championships to 'Virgin Kiteboarding' for the reasons stated above. This could mean that sailors participating in such an event could be in conflict with the ISAF Eligibility Regulation, and could become excluded from ISAF sanctioned events in the future.

Luna Rossa AC45 in New Zealand - Emirates Team New Zealand has come to an arrangement with former Challenger of Record Luna Rossa to use an AC45 for testing and development.

The Italian boat will be used with a second AC45 the team are believed to have acquired from the former Australian team and is in addition to the AC45F (one Design) used on the America's Cup World Series of events. That will get Team New Zealand up to the level of Oracle Team USA and Challengers - Artemis Racing, and Land Rover BAR - who have a similar fleet. It is not known what Softbank Team Japan will have in terms of its own fleet or if the team will continue to collaborate long term with the Defender Oracle Team USA.

Oracle Team USA upgrades first AC45S - America's Cup champion, Oracle Team USA appears to be a leap ahead of the rest of the Challengers for the 35th America's Cup with reports coming out of Bermuda that the team is upgrading its first AC45 S (Surrogate).

The 45ft Surrogate boats are designed to mimic the AC50's that will be used in the 35th America's Cup. Only two of the Challengers have until now Surrogate boats - Artemis Racing and Land Rover BAR (GBR). Emirates Team NZ announced today that they have acquired an AC45 from the Italian Luna, as mentioned above.

Good Sailing

Double Double
And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.

Some thoughts on provisioning for distance sailing
A new perspective on provisioning and time spent at sea One of the great joys of distance racing unfurls the moment that the dock lines are untied. Suddenly, the myriad packing lists that inevitably define most trip-planning efforts become about as relevant as a tax return from eight years ago.
