Volvo Ocean Race – Dongfeng Race Team, the story + Video

by Dongfeng Race Team on 10 Aug 2015
Dongfeng Race Team - 2015 Volvo Ocean Race Yann Riou / Dongfeng Race Team
Our mission at the start was never about winning the Volvo Ocean Race outright – but two leg wins, and third overall meant we came closer then we ever expected when we set sail over a year ago.

This video is our story. It shows the genuine struggle of the team to prove themselves and it shows how, as the race unfolded, the ‘underdogs’ quickly demonstrated their potential against the other professional crews and, more importantly, their determination…

There were ecstatic highs and unfair lows. Hardly race favourites, from day one this Chinese campaign faced adversity and sometimes it was draining, both physically and emotionally. It’s a given that if we had a dollar for every tear, drop of sweat and laughter over the last nine months, we would be millionaires today. This video will take you through it all.

Winning comes in many forms, we didn’t take the trophy home but does that mean we didn’t win? Maybe we didn’t win the Volvo Ocean Race but we won our own challenge.

Dongfeng Race Team will be present during Cowes Week 2015 and will participate in the Artemis Challenge on the 13th August. The Artemis Challenge attracts some of the biggest names in sailing. And looks set to be another magnificent spectacle of big boat racing in British waters.
