ISAF Team Racing World Championship - Gold League decided

by ISAF on 23 Jul 2015 Day three of the ISAF Team Racing World Championships was all about consistency and trying to make the Gold grade.

The top nine teams progressed into the Gold League and would keep their chances of a medal alive. Since the beginning of the regatta, Great Britain and USA have almost had a monopoly on the top places, and that was the way it finished with the two nations making up the top six.

It was the teams of the USA that took the initiative and raced consistently throughout the day to move up ahead of GBR2 who were pushed down the order in to fourth.

GBR1 remain the best of the British teams and will look to push on into the semi-finals as they aim to add to their current World Champion status. Andy Cornah of GBR1 said, 'We had a pretty windy day yesterday and it's lighter today, so it's good to have a variety of conditions. We've been pretty rusty but feel like we are steadily cranking it up.”

Making up the other places in the Gold League are BER1, IRL1 and AUS1, who had picked up their results from the first round-robin to sneak in at number nine, pushing out GBR Y1 and USA Y1.

Bermuda's team captain Emily Nagel said, 'We are eager to show the world that Bermudians can hold their own not only in fleet racing but team racing as well.” At present they are at track to do just that as they make the cut in this their first Team Racing World Championship.

Based on Friday's forecast in and around Rutland, ISAF's Race Officials and the regatta organisers have made the decision to complete the regatta on Thursday. That means the Gold and Silver Leagues will continue as planned, but with the added addition of the semi-finals and finals taking place in an action packed finale.
