CORK’s Laser Canadian Championships and Doors Open Kingston

Saturday June 20th marks Kingston’s Doors Open Event and the first day of racing for the CORK 2015 season! Portsmouth Olympic Harbour will be bustling with sailors, coaches, volunteers and spectators.

Doors Open provides a once-a-year opportunity for residents and visitors alike to experience a one-of-a-kind trip into the past, present, and future. CORK has been selected as one of 24 venues for Doors Open Kingston and has hosted world-class events since 1969. This Olympic legacy sailing site will showcase sailing history and athletic excellence. Visitors will learn about the history of CORK, the sport of sailing, the 1976 Olympic Games and spectate the 2015 Laser Canadian Championships.

On this day over 75 National and International sailors representing 15 countries will begin the competition for the title of Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 Canadian Champion, with racing staring at 1100 daily June 20-21. More International sailors will be onsite training for the upcoming June 29- July 8, Laser World Championship.

Canadian Sailing Teams’ Laser Standard Members, Tom Ramshaw, Evert McLaughlin, Matthew Ryder, and Kingston’s Robert Davis will provide intense competition as they warm up for the upcoming Laser World Championship regatta. For the Female Laser Radial Fleet, Canadian Sailing Members Brenda Bowskill, Sarah Douglas, and Violet Stafford will battle for the title of Laser Radial Canadian Champion.

Come down to Portsmouth Olympic Harbour on Saturday June 20th from 1000-1600 to learn the amazing history behind CORK, and see all the on water action!
