Volvo Ocean Race – Team SCA se aproxima de Lorient em primeiro lugar na oitava etapa da Volta ao Mundo. Líderes quase desde a largada em Portugal, o time 100% feminino é pouco ameaçado pelos rivais. Em segundo lugar está o Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, que pode ser o campeão geral com uma perna de antecipação

Os barcos se aproximam da cidade francesa de Lorient, destino final da oitava etapa da Volvo Ocean Race. O Team SCA, barco 100% feminino na regata, se mantém firmemente na liderança, mesmo em condições difíceis no terceiro dia de prova. O conto de fadas pode se tornar realidade, levando em conta o ritmo de regata das meninas. Elas ficaram em sexto lugar em todas as etapas disputadas, mas mostraram velocidade na maioria delas! Em um percurso mais curto, o resultado pode pintar. 'Nós estamos onde queríamos chegar', sentenciou Sam Davies, comandante do time feminino.

Os barcos devem cruzar a linha de chegada no início da madrugada desta na quarta-feira (10) impulsionados por ventos fortes. A navegadora da equipe SCA, Libby Greenhalgh, disse também que as condições de vento e do mar mudaram um pouco a estratégia de aproximação à costa da Bretanha.

O Team SCA tem vantagem de 7.5 milhas náuticas para o Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing e 8.5 para o MAPFRE, segundo e terceiro lugares, respectivamente. O resultado coloca o barco árabe com a mão na taça, já que o Team Brunel - vice-líder no geral - está em quinto na última atualização de placar desta terça-feira (9). A diferença subiria de seis para nove pontos, o que matematicamente seria suficiente para o título antecipado.

'Todos a bordo estão pensando na classificação geral. Estamos muito perto de ganhar o campeonato. Mas ninguém fala disso! É muito cedo para fazer qualquer suposição sobre a ordem de chegada desta perna', escreveu no seu blog o repórter a bordo do Abu Dhabi, Matt Knighton.

O bom desempenho do Team Vestas Wind também chama a atenção. O barco da Dinamarca está em quarto lugar, tirando pontos preciosos dos adversários do Abu Dhabi.
