Volvo Ocean Race – Team Vestas Wind seglar igen

Nästan på dagen sex månader efter att de seglade upp på revet Cargados Carajos Shoals är Team Vestas Wind nu tillbaks i Volvo Ocean Race. Idag testseglade det danska laget för första gången med sin reparerade Volvo Ocean 65:a i Lissabon.

Den 29 november förra året, mitt under den andra etappen av Volvo Ocean Race från Kapstaden till Abu Dhabi, seglade det danska laget Team Vestas Wind upp på ett rev mitt ute i Indiska Oceanen. Ingen i besättningen kom till skada med laget tvingades överge sitt grundsatta skepp för att ta sig till säkerhet på Mauritius.

Laget tillkännagav en dryg månad efter olyckan att deras ambition var att komma tillbaks till tävlingen. Den skadade båten hade då bärgats från revet för att sedan fraktas till båtvarvet Persico i Bergamo, Italien dit den anlände den 29 januari.

Ett omfattande reparationsarbete inleddes och att få båten färdig i tid till hamnstoppet i Lissabon har varit en kamp mot klockan. I onsdags kom den reparerade båten till Lissabon från Bergamo och igår sjösattes hon. Idag gjordes den första testseglingen och Team Vestas Wind har nu en vecka på sig att fintrimma båten.

På lördag den 6 juni seglas ett In-Port Race i Lissabon och dagen efter inleds den åttonde etappen till Lorient, Frankrike. Om tre veckor kommer Volvo Ocean Race till Sverige. Värdens största havskappsegling avgörs i nio etapper på vägen runt jorden och den sista delsträckan avslutas med målgång i hjärtat av Göteborg i juni 2015.
