Barco com brasileiro regata local nos EUA e ganha moral para etapa

O espanhol Mapfre faturou a Team Vestas Wind In-Port Race Newport. Com largada perfeita, equipe de André 'Bochecha' Fonseca ganha moral para a sétima etapa, que começa amanhã e será disputada de Newport até Lisboa.

A regata costeira de Newport foi vencida, neste sábado (16), pelo Mapfre, barco espanhol que tem o brasileiro André 'Bochecha' Fonseca como integrante. A equipe conquistou o primeiro lugar do pódio depois de fazer uma prova perfeita da largada até cruzar a linha na baía norte-americana. O resultado é importante para o time que ganha confiança para a próxima etapa, que começa no domingo (17). Os barcos deixam Newport com destino à capital portuguesa Lisboa para um percurso de 2.800 milhas náuticas.

'Muito feliz. Enfim ganhamos uma regata in-port!', comemorou André 'Bochecha' Fonseca, brasileiro do Mapfre. Os espanhóis não haviam vencido nenhuma regata local até o momento. A in-port vale como desempate no final do campeonato.



'Fizemos uma grande largada e tudo ficou mais fácil. Saímos com uma boa distância e depois foi só administrar a vantagem. A tripulação trabalhou de maneira perfeita, sem nenhum erro e ganhamos! É importante para a equipe e para motivar a tripulação visando a largada para Portugal neste domingo', relatou o brasileiro.

O Mapfre está em quinto na classificação geral e seu objetivo principal é terminar o evento no pódio. A regata marcou a volta do comandante Iker Martínez ao leme. O atleta não correu a regata anterior no Brasil, pois estava fazendo campanha olímpica.

A regata teve oito nós de vento. O segundo colocado - quase um minuto atrás - foi o Team Alvimedica. O Abu Dhabi, que lidera o campeonato e as regatas locais também, chegou em terceiro.
