Boaters are reminded to keep clear of a section of Newcastle Harbour and two nautical miles offshore from the harbour entrance this weekend for the safe staging of powerboat races.
Roads and Maritime Services has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence to the APBA Offshore Council to host the event on the harbour between 9am and 3pm on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May.
The area will be downstream of the Port Hunter Sailing Club, the Dockyard Berth number four and the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club and it will be marked by buoys and monitored by control vessels.
Vessels not involved in the event should not enter the marked area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.
Roads and Maritime reminds people to wear a lifejacket when boating, especially in vessels smaller than 4.8 metres when alone, at night or offshore.
