National 12 Gul Series - Plenty of action

Gul National 12 Series at Salcombe Malcolm Mackley
National 12 Gul Series – The May Bank Holiday weekend saw plenty of action in Salcombe Harbour, when the Salcombe Yacht Club hosted the first Salcombe Yawl Open meeting of the year, combined with a Gul National 12 series event, with 22 Yawls and 14 National 12's on the water.

In the Gul National 12 series event, Salcombe was blessed a healthy turnout of various combinations of mums, dads, siblings and children, suggesting that there will be yet another generation of top class sailors developing from the class.

Graham Camm and Zoe Ballantyne showed that they were a class act, taking three straight wins, with Salcombe regular, Tom Stewart crewed by son and daughter Robert and Isobel, securing a string of second places.

Two masts returned to kit form on the windy Sunday afternoon, which was a shame since these occurred in the later stages of an epic race, and both of the teams deserved the finish.

Class stalwart Anthony Gifford took the Monday morning win sailing with son James, the youngest winner of the weekend, followed home by Tom, enough to give the Stewart team second place.

At the prize giving Race Officer Graham Cranford-Smith congratulated all the teams on the efforts.

Overall results: (Top three)

First N3530, Graham Camm and Zoe Ballantyne
Second N3544, Tom, Robert and Isobel Stewart
Third N3540, Jon Ibbotson and Charlotte Stewart
