2014 - 15 Volvo Ocean Race - La sixième étape de la Volvo Ocean Race s’est élancée aujourd’hui après une escale spectaculaire à Itajaí. Le départ a été lancé à 19h00 heure française mais les concurrents ont eu tout leur temps pour faire leurs adieux au Brésil, la faute à un vent complètement absent.

Comme hier lors de l’In-Port Race Team Vestas Wind, le vent était très faible et il a fallu beaucoup de patience aux équipages pour parvenir à s’échapper de la mélasse. Le leader du classement général, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing était du mauvais côté de la ligne au moment du coup de canon et a donc commencé cette étape par une pénalité.

Après une heure d’une course au ralenti, la direction de course a décidé de raccourcir le parcours pour permettre aux équipages de rejoindre le large au plus vite.

Team Alvimedica, déterminé à être le premier à rejoindre son port d’attache – Newport – était le premier à prendre le large, suivi par Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, Team SCA, Dongfeng Race Team et Team Brunel.

Une fois qu’elle sera sortie du marasme, la flotte devrait toucher un vent mieux établi le long de la côte brésilienne. Selon les prévisions, l’arrivée sera jugée à Newport dans 17 à 20 jours.
