Grade 3 Match Race at Porto Montenegro YV overall

by ISAF on 9 Apr 2015
Celebrations - ISAF Grade 3 Match Race - PMYC ISAF
Porto Montenegro Yacht Club (PMYC) held its first International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Grade 3 Match Race of the year. The PMYC Match Race took place on the 20th - 22nd March, with five regional teams competing on World Match Racing Tour Blu 26 boats. Tomislav Basic from Croatia, who is the world's no.18 match racer, skippered the winning team.

Basic gave an immaculate performance over the three days, beating Dejan Presen from Slovenia in the finals 3:0. Competitors experienced perfect conditions to test boat set-up, tactics and teamwork, in the three round robins (33 matches) that took place.

'It was superb to see this high standard of boat handling and teamwork demonstrated over these three days. We received great feedback from the teams about the event which is the first of many official ISAF graded events that the PMYC will offer', explains Jenny Puttock, Yacht Club Manager.

This is the first International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Grade 3 Match Race hosted by the PMYC, which has been steadily growing its international regatta series since 2009. The ISAF grading system recognizes the world's most consistent performers out of over 2000 skippers. Grade 3 belongs to the categories of both 'National Match Race Championship' and 'Minor International events' and is one grade away from the category of a 'Top International Event'.

The next event on the PMYC calendar is the Interclub Match Race. This Grade 4 event will be held from the 17th to 19th of April 2015 in Porto Montenegro. Teams from across Europe will come to compete and socialize in this friendly, but highly competitive annual match race, to win the Interclub Match Race Cup.
