Volvo Ocean Race - A las 11:42 UTC, 13:42 hora española, Team SCA ha conseguido doblar Cabo de Hornos. Todos los barcos de la flota están de nuevo en el Atlántico, salvo Dongfeng, que prepara su transporte a Itajaí tras romper el palo y abandonar la etapa.

'Es un alivio haber doblado Cabo de Hornos, la semana pasada parecía que cada vez estaba más lejos', explicaba Sam Davies, patrona del equipo femenino Team SCA, nada más doblar la punta sur del continente americano -con permiso del islote Águila-.

'Ha sido duro, con las roturas y los problemas con la electrónica, así que teníamos muchas ganas', explicaba la 'pequeña inglesa', apodo con el que se la conoce, en relación a la vela fraccional que rompieron, y el sistema de predicción de oleaje que también sufrió una avería.

'Todas sabíamos que íbamos a pasar frío durante más días, que íbamos a sufrir durante más días. En medio de la noche hemos tenido tormentas de nieve, condiciones que te machacaban, muchas olas y el barco fuera de control entre ellas, pero lo hemos conseguido. Acabamos de hacer un pequeño homenaje a la memoria de nuestro entrenador Magnus Olsson. Espero que esté orgulloso y mirándonos', añadía. Olsson, un mito de la vuelta al mundo por equipos, que ganó en una ocasión y realizó en seis, murió el 20 de abril de 2013 en Lanzarote, donde el equipo tenía su base.

'Aún nos quedan 48 horas con mucho viento, pero luego todo mejorará. Esto hace que todas tiremos para adelante', añadía.

'Estoy muy orgullosa del equipo, y de cómo lo hemos hecho. Algunas ya habíamos estado aquí, pero con otros barcos, otras velas. Estos barcos son diferentes, así que, en un sentido, es como si fuera la primera vez también para nosotras', puntualizaba.
