Volvo Ocean Race - Ciclone Pam desvia e impacto em Auckland será menor

Volvo Ocean Race - O ciclone Pam mudou seu curso e seu principal ponto passará 200 milhas - 370 quilômetros longe de Auckland, local da largada da quinta etapa, entre a Nova Zelândia e o Brasil.

O impacto do fenômeno será menor do que o esperado. Mesmo assim, a partida dos barcos para Itajaí segue suspensa até terça-feira (17) e a organização tomou todas as medidas de segurança para evitar estragos. 'Acreditamos que o pior já tenha passados, mas os ventos na Vila da Regata devem ficar entre 30 e 35 nós - 56-65 km/h. Teremos menos chuva do que o esperado. Parece que a pequena mudança de curso ciclone vai nos salvar de um problema muito maior', acrescentou o meteorologista da regata, Gonzalo Infante.



O integrante da equipe de terra do MAPFRE, o português Renato Conde, explicou o que estava ocorrendo na madrugada e manhã deste domingo (15). 'Ficamos de guarda e amarramos todos os barcos para esperar o fenômeno passar'. O ciclone Pam deixou um rastro de destruição através da ilha de Vanuatu.

'Esta situação é única. Nunca pegamos algo assim nos 41 anos da Volvo Ocean Race', escreveu o navegador australiano Andrew Cape, do Team Brunel.



Os comandante dos seis barcos irão se reunir na manhã desta segunda-feira (16) para definir a data certa da largada da quinta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race. Apesar do fenômeno perder força, a meteorologia indica mais problemas na saída da Nova Zelândia, ainda pelo Pacífico Sul. 'Até a chegada ao Oceano Antártico, o mar ficará difícil. Temos de garantir que a flotilha escape desse ponto perigoso', contou Gonzalo Infante.

Despedida

O prefeito de Itajaí, próxima cidade a receber a Volvo Ocean Race, participou da cerimônia de despedida da flotilha de Auckland. Jandir Bellini esteve ao lado do representante de Auckland, Len Brown, e juntos, simbolicamente, fizeram a passagem do bastão. 'Estamos preparados mais uma vez. Itajaí gosta de desafios e estamos aguardando, é claro, com muita ansiedade', disse Jandir Bellini.

A quinta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race terá 6.776 milhas (12.549 quilômetros) entre Auckland (Nova Zelândia) e Itajaí (Brasil). Será a mais longa e desgastante prova da Volta ao Mundo.
