On the morning of the 26th of January, the Maersk Line ship MV Stockholm delivered the Team Vestas Wind's damaged VO65 to the port in Genoa, Italy.
From here she will be taken to the Persico building facility where the rebuild of the wrecked boat will be undertaken.
Skipper Chris Nicholson and shore manager, Neil Cox explain that the 240km trip to the Persico facility is not just a two hour drive up the highway. Permits for an over-width six metre beam boat are required and the boat can only travel at certain times. She is not expected to leave Genoa until one night later in the week headed for Bergamo.
'There we will have a team of guys waiting to physically see the boat rather than relying on reports and pictures,' said Nicholson.
Cox says the boat will leave on the night of the 28th and the trip will take 8-9 hours, instead of the couple of hours normally taken by car. They have to be off the road by the morning of the 29th January.
The team's goal is to rejoin the race in Lisbon, Portugal in June, 2015.
