The 87 boat Sabre Fleet prepares for the first days racing - 37th Sabre Australian Championships Mark Soulsby
2014 - 15 Sabre Australian Championship - The 87 boat Sabre Fleet finally got their Nationals underway today, with the winds moderating back to a manageable 10-15 knots from the south west. A large wind chop and stirred up seaweed was left on the course area due to the strong winds the previous day, which made for challenging conditions for the sailors.
Gary McLennan from Vic led race one from start to finish to record a comfortable victory, with fellow Black Rock YC sailor Nick Mouat placing second and Ben Knoop from ASC finishing third, with Tim Van Der Veen fourth and Alister Danks fifth.
Race two was held in a slightly moderating breeze and local ASC sailor Mark Soulsby led from start to finish to record victory with Tim Van Der Veen second and Gary McLennan completing a good say in third position, then followed by another local in Peter Leader fourth and Russell Rooney from Vic fifth.
Two races are planned for the 31st December, with breeze forecast to be around the 10-15 knot sea breeze and then there will be a lay day on New Years Day.
