boatTENT becomes the first product for sailboats launching with crowdfunding. The goal, says Anibal Damiao, founder and inventor of boatTENT is to leverage the internet as a distribution mechanism to reach large masses of early-adopter sailors that would like to have a boatTENT while wanting to participate in the development of the product.
boatTENT is an cockpit hood cover without any metallic parts. The inflating mechanism allows it to be stored bellow deck easily which is crucial for small boats that have limited storage space and that need to leverage their cockpit space while cruising. Racing boats and high aesthetics boats are also seen as a potential market since they traditionally decide not to use cockpit covers due to their design and the need to drill holes for attachment points on the deck.

Crowdfunding became synonym of entrepreneurs launching and being successful without major outside investments. It will be interesting to see if this concept sticks with sailing enthusiasts.
