Yacht of the Year Awarded to 27 year old Sigma 38

Persephone - Garmin Hamble Winter Series Yacht of the Year Paul Wyeth
Rounding off a highly successful year the Sigma 38 Class has been awarded another fitting accolade. Beating off competition from approximately 100 boats Persephone crewed by the Goodhew family and friends is the Garmin Hamble Winter Series Yacht of the Year. A fabulous achievement in a series that fielded numerous much younger designs than the tenacious 27 year old Sigma 38.

Despite being in her third decade the British Sigma 38 is still a major force to be reckoned with in regattas up and down the country offering fiercely competitive racing yet a supportive one design fleet. In 2014 Sigma 38s who are consistently one of the biggest one design fleets entered in both offshore and inshore races have won Double Handed JOG Week, IRC Double Handed National Championships, IRC Scottish Championships, and numerous off shore races. The Sigma 38 One Design National Championships saw the biggest entry this century, with several new owners also participating.

Chairman and skipper of Persephone, Nigel Goodhew commented 'Our win in this event rounds off an excellent season and is testament to the consistently excellent crew we have attracted. Whilst I am thrilled to have personally won the Yacht of the Year I'm very aware I couldn't have done it without my beloved Sigma 38, Persephone and without the rest of the Sigma 38 community who constantly push us, keeping us on our toes. It's been tremendous fun.'
