2014 ISAF Training Scholarship concludes

by ISAF on 13 Nov 2014 After eight weeks of intensive training the six international candidates on the 2014 ISAF Training Scholarship are back home pushing the sport of sailing forward within their nation.

Elena Papazoglou (CYP), Ming-Chi HSU (TPE), Anastasia Chernova (RUS), Krishan Janaka (SRI), Zaklina Litauniece (LAT) and Hiroshi Hosaka (JPN) are all now actively engaged in helping their National Sailing Federations to implement the National Sports Structure Development Plan that they put together during the ISAF course.

A number of the candidates have already met with their National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and Sports / Education Ministries in order to ensure engagement from all national stakeholders with the proposed programmes for sailing.

ISAF very much looks forward to reporting on the success of these programmes in coming months and years. Dan Jaspers, ISAF Training and Development Manager commented on the outcomes of the 2014 Course saying, 'After four years of delivering this exciting course I am now confident that the outcomes of the Training Scholarship are able to provide all participating MNAs almost instantaneous results. We have always been proud to say that our course is evolving year by year and the 2014 course has been no different. We delivered a majority of the practical course modules at the 2012 Olympic Sailing venue at Weymouth and Portland, accommodated the candidates in location that was purpose built for Olympic Athletes, as well as having included more interactive presentation workshops from other National Federations such as Turkey, New Zealand, Ireland, the Netherlands, France and South Africa. The outcomes of constantly evaluating this course have meant that the content is always relevant and able to adapt to meet the requirements of each MNA represented. I hope that the small changes to the 2015 programme will further enhance the outcomes and continue to see the ISAF Training Scholarship be a programme that can benefit as wide a cross-section of our members as possible.'

The ISAF Training Scholarship course is designed to develop the skills of practicing Coaches or those individuals already working in the capacity of either National Training Programme managers / coordinators needed to develop and manage an effective and sustainable National Sail Training Programme. Practical skills, personal sailing / coaching ability as well as solving the unique challenges in the delivery of sailing disciplines including, but not limited to Kiteboarding, windsurfing, dinghy, multihull as well as coach boat driving and yachting are all part of the course. The international candidates also work on developing the management skills required to maintain such a programme within the unique sailing 'landscape' of their home nations.
