On November 2, in Saint-Malo, Marc Guillemot will start the Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe on Safran. Every four years, the famous solo transatlantic race draws crowds fascinated by these modern-day heroes. In an age when news is shared in real time on social networks, Safran has devised a way to make this event a unique experience for those following on the internet.

Since October 16th, the homepage has had a makeover. With one click, the 'Social Hub' of the Safran Sailing Team allows followers, through the use of hashtags - #SafranRdR2014 or #SafranSailingTeam - to go back in real time through all the content published on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the latest messages of encouragement sent to Marc from the website. Everyone can join the conversation and share the best moments of the Route du Rhum with the Safran Sailing Team community.

What will Marc Guillemot’s race time be on the 2014 Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe? Answer this question for a chance to win a week-long trip for two to Guadeloupe, iPad minis and lots of other prizes! The prediction competition is open now until November 4. To try your luck simply log on here.

The race map in the colours of Safran, updated every hour, 24 hours a day, is available from the website. It allows users to follow the progress and position of Marc in real time and discover the latest photos and videos sent from on board. Two news updates will be published daily to analyse, understand and share the Marc’s progress on Safran. For those who prefer to use their phones, Safran will also send a text message every morning with the progress and the latest information from the skipper. Those who do not have time to surf the net can register for the newsletter.

Safran has also launched operation 'give me some news'. The first 500 visitors who post a message of encouragement to Marc in the 'encourage him' section of the Safran website will receive a postcard signed by the skipper of Safran sent from Guadeloupe.
