Argo Group Gold Cup - Team Gilmour in Bermuda

This is TG's first time competing at the Argo Group Gold Cup and first trip to Bermuda, but we almost didn't make it due to hurricane Gonzalo. On arrival it was a relief to see that the island sustained relatively minor damage from the 120kt + winds, which hit the island just days before our arrival. The event has been delayed one day to allow for repairs to be completed after two storms in a week and it is amazing to see the resilience of the island and its people. Credit must be given to the event organisers and their dedication to overcome this setback.

The Argo Group Gold Cup is sailed in the International One Design (IOD) Yachts - very old wooden hulled sloops which are slow turning and heavy. This poses a very different challenge to what we were racing in Holland, but we had a successful training session yesterday and are looking forward to getting out on the water for the start of our qualifying session this afternoon.

The format of this event is quite unique in that there are 20 teams competing! The 20 teams have been split into two groups of 10 for the qualifying round robins, with the top four teams from each group moving through to the quarter finals. We are second to race - in group two, with the following teams making up our group:

Taylor Canfield (ISV)
Mathieu Richard (FRA)
Phil Robertson (NZL)
David Gilmour (AUS)
Staffan Lindberg (FIN)
Eric Monnin (SUI)
Marek Stanczyk (POL)
Chris Poole (USA)
Lance Fracer (BER)
Nathan Outteridge (AUS)
