LJ Hooker Lane Cove Upper Harbour Championship starts Saturday

by Andrew Glassock on 22 Oct 2014
Flying 11s - Take the ride..... - 2014 Flying 11 LJ Hooker Lane Cove Upper Harbour Championship Andrew Glassock
2014 -15 LJ Hooker Lane Cove Upper Harbour Championship - Will it be a boat from up north – Belmont or Avalon or from down south St George or Wollongong? Will it be a boat from a 'west of the bridge club' – Drummoyne, Hunters Hill or Lane Cove or one from an eastern club – Northbridge, Middle Harbour, Vaucluse or Manly?

Flying 11 sailors will gather for battle at Lane Cove 12ft Sailing Skiff Club this Saturday ready for the now traditional Dash4Cash that takes the sailors downstream from the club, around Onion’s Point and out through Humbug to the waters off Cockatoo Island. Once out in the lower reaches of the Parramatta River a further two races will be run to decide who will lift the LJ Hooker Lane Cove Upper Harbour Championship Trophy for 2014 and have bragging rights in the last inter-club race before the NSW State titles are held in a fortnight up north at Belmont 16s.

Supporters and interested spectators can check out the boats while they rig on the deck and watch the start of the dash from the Club veranda and then find good vantage points to watch the harbour races above Greenwich Wharf or at Clarkes Point. The racing will take the sailors close to these viewing areas.

Over winter the Flying 11 Class agreed to allow the controlled introduction of carbon masts – C-Tech from New Zealand and local company CST Composites have built mast to meet the new rules – will we see one of these battle sticks in action this weekend?

Stewart Kirkby, Licensee and Principal of LJ Hooker Lane Cove says 'we are very happy to be the sponsor of the regatta and are keen to foster junior sailors and their participation in this great sport'. Zhik started just up the road from Lane Cove in Northwood said Zhik’s Phil Lucas so in some ways we see it as our home club. Lane Cove Flying 11 Class Secretary Andrew Glassock said that thanks to the continued support of LJ Hooker Lane Cove along with Zhik there will be well over $1200 in prizes and cash up for grabs.

For Flying 11 Sailors it is still not too late to enter online here.
