Chineses do Dongfeng perdem liderança após quebra do leme

A noite deste sábado (18) não foi nada boa para os chineses do Dongfeng Race Team no Oceano Atlântico. O barco, que liderava a primeira etapa da Volvo Ocean Race, ficou quase uma hora parado após bater em um objeto não identificado, resultando na quebra do leme. O violento impacto assustou a tripulação, que foi obrigada a adotar soluções rápidas para voltar a navegar rumo a Cidade do Cabo.

O repórter a bordo Yann Riou relatou o procedimento após o pequeno acidente. 'Tínhamos duas opções, colocar um leme provisório de emergência ou retirar o que restou do antigo leme e colocar um novo no lugar. Decidimos pela segunda opção. O Thomas Rouxel colocou a roupa de mergulho e pulou na água para fazer a substituição. Claro que estamos todos decepcionados. Não é justo, mas faz parte'.

O Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing assumiu a liderança da primeira etapa após o contratempo do Dongfeng Race Team, que segue em segundo lugar. O problema ocorreu na costa africana.

Os chineses não foram os únicos que sofreram na madrugada. Team Brunel e Team SCA indicaram também pequenos problemas no curso, como rede de pescas na quilha, por exemplo. Os ventos fracos devem adiar em pelo menos dois dias a chegada a Cidade do Cabo, na África do Volvo Ocean Race
