ISAF Sailing World Championships Santander 2014 - Mat Belcher and Will Ryan won the gold medal in the 470 class and Tom Burton silver in the Laser class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

Celebrating his Birthday on Saturday, Olympic gold medallist Belcher gave himself one of his most memorable presents by becoming the only sailor in 470 history to win five successive World Championship titles.

Together with crew Will Ryan (QLD), the World Sailor of the year defended their ISAF Sailing World Championship crown in the Men’s 470 on the penultimate day of the regatta (Saturday, 20 September). It is the second World Champion title for Will Ryan.

It is Australia’s second medal at these World Championships after Tom Burton (NSW) claimed Australia’s first medal of the ISAF Sailing World Championships – a silver in the Laser class.

Belcher and Ryan as well as Burton qualified the Men’s 470 and the Laser classes for Australia for a spot at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
