ISAF Sailing Worlds, Santander - Canada clinches Radial Rio berth

Laser Radial sailor Isabella Bertold has secured an Olympic berth for Canada after seven races at the ISAF World Championships. This marks the second spot lock down for Canada with the Laser berth clinched earlier in the week by Lee Parkhill.

The Laser Gold fleet managed to squeeze in a few more races to wrap up their final series with top 10 prepping for medal racing tomorrow along with the Radial fleet. Isabella wraps up in 18th overall with Parkhill in 43rd.

Unfortunately the Laser silver fleet never got the opportunity to sail past race 5, proving to be a very short and disappointing event for Robert Davis, Evert McLaughlin, Tom Ramshaw and several other sailors across the fleet. The Nacra 17 fleet and 470’s also stayed onshore today waiting for the breeze to settle.

The Finn fleet battled the breeze and waves today with two intense races in 20 + knots. Canadian Greg Douglas sailed a very impressive day with a 2, 4, moving up to 15th. Giles Scott (GBR) is holding a clinic in finn sailing dominating the fleet with four bullets in total.

49er fleets were all about completing qualification and securing a spot in gold or silver fleet. Yellow fleet went out first to catch up on some racing and of the 40 boats racing only 19 managed to complete the course. The FX fleets completed only one race on the lively day.

Tomorrow is scheduled with medal racing for Lasers and Radials. The 49er, Finn and Men's RS:X completed their qualification series whilst the 49erFX need to complete two further races and the Men's 470 one to complete their round.
