Red Bull 49erFX team of Molly Meech and Alex Maloney report on their build up to the ISAF Worlds Santander, Spain

This week has sped by in a blur! It feels like it was a few hours ago that we were here typing our last blog. It has been a cool week for us here in Santander, and the excitement is building for the first race day of the 2014 ISAF Worlds. As our training schedule tapers down towards the start of racing, we are able to free up some more time to relax and check out the city.

Santander is decidedly a pretty cool place. It has everything - a cute old town with plenty of typical Spanish tapa bars and old architecture, a lined with stunning beaches, and nature to go explore. Compared to other cities we have been fortunate to visit in Spain, Santander is unique as there are less foreign tourists. Instead, this seems to be the place Spanish go to holiday.

Santander particularly special right now. You can feel the energy of a thousand plus sailors that are here chasing their own dreams. The town is really getting behind the event, which is great for sailing and adds to the atmosphere.

Since we have been here, the sun has been out in full force, and it has been a much-welcomed relief after our two-week stint in NZ winter. However as we write, the rain and thunder - that was nothing but talk last week - is finally rolling in, and we aren’t so sure about this. Hopefully, it stays away long enough during the day for us to enjoy some quality racing.

So tomorrow our 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships begins.
