Level 2 Technical Course successfully delivered in Sri Lanka

by ISAF on 26 Aug 2014 A Level 2 Technical Course for Participation oriented coaches was successfully delivered at the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club in Sri Lanka from 11 - 16 August, 2014, with 13 national coaches present from the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan coach candidates represented the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club (CMYC), Royal Colombo Yacht club (RCYC), Navy sailing Club and the Mirissa Sailing Club (MSC).

The following feedback was given by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka in a statement, 'We would thank International Sailing Federation and also the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and its Olympic Solidarity funding programme for their fullest cooperation. We are very glad to inform everyone that we have now manage to include the Sailing Sport in to the school curriculum in Sri Lanka and, after this Technical Course for Trainers (Coaches), we can now overcome the situation we faced with a lack of 'Reputed Sailing Coaches' in the country. Even though the Sri Lankan coaches speak mainly Sinhala, they all agreed that ISAF Nominated Expert, Emrah Surmen (TUR) did a great job in getting the message across.'

Emrah Surmen said of his time in Sri Lanka, 'I was very happy to be in such a lovely country and I truly believe the national training programme in Sri Lanka will soon improve to a higher level. I would like to thank ISAF and the IOC for giving me this opportuniy to work with such keen coaches willing to learn and also an MNA willing to do anything to improve sailing in Sri Lanka. I would also like to give a special thanks to Mr. Sarath Kuragama for making all the efforts to have a great course and taking good care of me during my stay.'

National Sri Lankan Coach candidates from the course added, 'We would like to thank our Expert Emrah for giving us his knowledge and guidance. We all had a lot of fun learning from him. We will make sure that we all work even harder to improve the quality of coaching in Sri Lanka. We are all saying that our sailing future looks much brighter now.'
