Brisbane Boat Show 2014 - New boat engines set to rev up interest

Suzuki's new 30hp outboard - Brisbane Boat Show John Daffy
2014 Brisbane Boat Show - A stable full of new horsepower will be revving up a fantastic display of boat engines at this year’s Brisbane Boat Show with a key focus on new capacities, new technologies and the introduction of personalised colour palettes.

Mercury Marine will be presenting the first display in Queensland of its new four stroke models, as well as new two litre 150hp and 170hp diesels and MotorGuide trolling motors.

The new four strokes on a 2.1 litre four cylinder platform, are in 75hp, 80hp, 90hp, 100hp and 115hp outputs.

The diesels are based on the brand’s existing two litre, in-line four cylinder model and feature variable geometry turbo-chargers delivering peak torque at 2,000rpm.

In the Suzuki camp there will be the new DF30A and 25A models with a host of features as well as an engine cut-away so you can see exactly what makes them tick.

An offset crankshaft, lean burn control system, an easy start recoil system and a new generation fuel injection system are key features.

Yamaha will be adding the F175A to its range of in-line four cylinder outboards and a new version of the F115 will be on display as the B series replacing the existing F115A.

Sharing features from Yamaha’s flagship outboard models, both new engines are compatible with Yamaha’s Command Link gauges and hardware and Yamaha’s ultra-slick shift dampening system range of propellers.

And while Mercury is adding the option of two different shades of white to its traditional phantom black on the 300hp Verado, BRP has dived totally into the paint palette for the 200 to 300hp Evinrude E-Tecs offering the option of customer tailored colour schemes.

While spectacularly coloured outboards are an integrated fashion statement on many high performance boats in the United States, the sighting of the first colour variants at the Brisbane Boat Show is guaranteed to be a scene stealer.

Internationally, the company’s web site has encouraged U.S. customers to colour design their own outboards, but the chance to change the main colour on the cowling panels as well as accent colours, creates a dynamic first on the local Queensland market.

The Brisbane Boat Show runs from Friday, September 12 to Monday, September 15 at the Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills.

Adult entry to the Brisbane Boat Show is $18, concession is $12, there are discounted prices for ‘after dark’ admittance on the Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m., children under 15 are free; an adult two-day pass is $25 and tickets are available through website.
