Baptême du feu en mer du Nord pour les Volvo Ocean65

C’est un Tour des Iles Britanniques grandiose auxquels participent les cinq Volvo Ocean 65. En raison des conditions météos très fortes, le départ prévu hier a finalement été lancé ce matin et le parcours a été inversé pour permettre aux concurrents de bénéficier d’un vent portant sur la première partie de course.

Malgré ces précautions, la flotte est loin d’être épargnée comme peut en témoigner Pascal Bidégorry, navigateur à bord de Dongfeng Race Team, qui a chuté et s’est ouvert la main aujourd’hui.

Martin Stromberg, l’équipier médical du bord a mis à profit sa formation et posé quatre points de suture. « L’un des équipiers est tombé et s’est raccorché à moi. J’ai tapé quelque part et ça m’a fait un trou dans la main. Ça a beaucoup saigné, c’est sans doute assez profond. C’est la première fois que ça m’arrive » explique Pascal Bidegorry qui semble avoir déjà récupéré tous ses moyens.


Preuve en est, l’équipage franco-chinois Dongfeng Race Team, skippé par Charles Caudrelier, est troisième en mer du Nord, à quelques milles seulement des Espagnols, menés par Iker Martinez, et d’Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (Ian Walker). Le bateau féminin mené par Sam Davies (Team SCA) ferme la marche, à quelques milles des Américains d’Alvimedica (Charlie Enright).

La nuit s’annonce musclée pour les cinq monotypes avec un vent de sud-ouest qui dépasse régulièrement les 40 nœuds et lève des creux de plus de huit mètres. Rappelons que cette zone est parsemée de plateformes pétrolières et connait l’un des trafics maritimes les plus importants du monde.
