RS Feva World Championship - Brilliant sailing on day 2

by Pip Baily on 29 Jul 2014
2014 RS Feva World Championship, day 2 Mondial RS Feva - YC Carnac
The last day of the Qualifying series at the RS Feva World Championship brought brilliant sailing with significant challenges as the wind went from 10-12knots during Race 4 (first race of the day) through 16knots dropping to nine knots in Race 5 and pumping up to 20-22 gusting 26knots by the end of Race 6 for Red fleet. Serious concentration and physical prowess was required to maintain levels during the whole day. The race course largely dodged all showers during racing – it was sunny almost all day – but there was a massive thunderstorm at about 6.30pm which was monsoon style.

Performance of the day was from Markus Lilienthal and Uko Rasmus Tideman from Estonia who pushed up with a pretty dominant 2,1,1 for the day to pitch into fourth at the end of qualifying. Equally impressive were Tom Dutilh and Max Bruijn from the Netherlands who contributed a 1,2,1 to qualify in second. Edward Norbury and Charlie Hutchings kept it steady to win the qualifying series while Piers Nicholls and Freddie Peters came through in third place – which would have been a second had they not forgotten to sign off at the end of day one.

The top ten represent quite a haul of nations and given that the qualifying series place counts as non discardable points for the final series they will all still feel right in the hunt. So fifth to 10th in nations goes GBR x3, CZE, LTU and GBR again. Leading family at present are the Taylors in fifth, leading ladies are Hannah Tucker and Bethan Matthew and leading juniors are Jack Lewis and Lucas Marshall.

Follow the action via daily updates on the RS Feva Class website and twitter #rsfevaworlds and Facebook. Full RS manufacturer support will be available for the duration of the event.
