US Etchells schedule information

by Etchells North America on 16 Jul 2014
2014 Etchells Worlds at Newport RI Daniel Forster http://www.DanielForster.com
A huge congratulations to Bill Hardesty, Stephanie Roble, Marcus Eagan and Taylor Canfield for their win at the 2014 Etchells Worlds Championship!

We also want to acknowledge all US sailors who participated in the event. The fleet was full of world-class sailors, and though not everyone can win, qualifying and sailing at that level is a huge accomplishment in itself. Special recognition to team Beckmann (third place,) team Bischoff (fourth place,) team Dieball (fifth place,) team Lammens (sixth place,) team Lotz (eighth place,) team Bush (ninth place) and team Cunningham (tenth place.)

Virtually half the fleet was from the US, so as a Class, we more than demonstrated our support of the event and passion for the boat. We hope we can count on that continued passion and participation at the regattas planned for the remainder of the year. Specifically:

• The New England Championship: hosted by the Corinthian Yacht Club and Fleet 4 Marblehead. Labor Day Weekend, August 30 and 31. Registration and regatta details can be found online. Anyone interested in having their boat moved from Marblehead to Portland to compete in the Lobster Bowl after the NEs should contact either Mark Luckes at mgluckes@comcast.net or Ralph Carpenter at carpenter76@hotmail.com.

• The Lobster Bowl Regatta: hosted by Portland Yacht Club and Fleet 27 Portland/Casco Bay. September 13-14. Registration and details to follow.

• The North American Championship: hosted by Chicago Yacht Club and Fleet 11 Chicago. September 18-21. Registration and regatta details are online.

• The Piana Cup: hosted by Fleet 20 Miami. December 6 and 7. Details can be found online.

In closing, a huge 'thank you' to Steve Girling, who sailed in the Worlds on CAN 1396. Steve took the time to share with us his perspectives of each race from a competitor's point of view. It made for exciting reading, and while his focus was clearly on winning the event, he took the time to make the competition real for each member of the class.

Enjoy the rest of summer, and please, support the regattas planned for the remainder of the year.
