Heli Taxi Bowen Offshore Superboat Race 2014 - After an exciting start to the series in Newcastle, the teams are eager to tackle the new course at the never before raced venue this weekend, on June 21st and 22nd for round 2 - Heli Taxi Bowen Offshore Superboat Race.

The Big Mango will be given a run for its money when 14 big boats in tow of their trucks and teams will roll into the charming Whitsunday town of Bowen.

Locals and visitors a like, can expect a weekend of free public entertainment including a street festival on Saturday night with market stalls, classic cars and the superboats on display in the main street. An air display by a Roulette on Saturday and four live bands will set off Sunday, alongside the final superboat race for the round.

Providing spectators with a great show, the Superboats will race around an eight kilometer course in the harbour with race one at 11:00am and race two at 1:00pm.

Round two will see an additional two teams enter the championship series. The Phantom Offshore race team will return to the SuperCat 400 class after driver, Mick Walker, sustained an injury prior to Round one. Mazlin Electrical race team missed the first round of the series due to mechanical issues, but are now running new Mercury 525hp V8 inboards making for some competitive racing in the SuperCat 1000 class.

Teams have been working hard to get their race boats ready for the North Queensland events with Bowen this weekend and Townsville the following, racing on the 28th and 29th of June. The weather conditions of round one at Newcastle left several teams with damaged boats and expectations of better conditions at Bowen.

Offshore Superboat President and Mackay local, Graham Fraser, said 'The town and its locals have been hugely supportive of the event and we’d like to specially thank Mick Boyce from Whitsunday Ag Services who is dedicated to his town and his love of motorsport, for making it happen.'

We also appreciate the support from Tourism Bowen and Whitsundays Marketing and Development who have been proactive in promoting the Heli Taxi Bowen Offshore Superboat Race.

Broadcasting the series again this year will be 'Speedweek' on SBS with, Dave Bishop, who is renowned for making the commentary as exciting as the racing! Dean Miller from Queensland Weekender will also be covering the event on the Sunday.
