Sailors in Dublin are in for a real treat. It's always exciting when a tall ship comes to town, particularly one as impressive as the Spanish Training Ship 'Juan Sebastian de Elcano', which is set to visit Dublin from Saturday 7th to Thursday 12th June.

The 'Elcano' is a 113 meters long four-masted schooner, the third largest tall ship of this type in the world. It was built in Cádiz (Spain) in 1928 and has visited 152 ports in more than 70 countries. Its main purpose is to train the future Officers of the Spanish Navy. Of its 85 cruises to date, 10 have been round the world trips. The last time the 'Elcano' visited Dublin was in July 1999.

For those close enough to take advantage of the opportunity, the 'Elcano' will enter Dublin Bay in the early morning of June 7th (Saturday) and they want boat owners to sail out to welcome her to Dublin port. The ship’s is expected to be at Poolbeg Light 8.45am Saturday 7th June.

The 'Elcano' will be open to the public the following days:

at Sir John Rogerson Quay:

Sunday 8 June from 12.00 to 13.00 and from 15.30 to 19.00
Monday 9 June from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 15.30 to 18.00
