Techno T293 For the the first time, America in the podium in Europeans

by Marina Font on 29 Apr 2014
Team USA - Techno T293 European Championships Patrick Pollak
The Techno T293 European Championships concluded this weekend the majestic and windy Garda lake in Italy. From the Ukraine to Russia, from Israel to Algeria, from Singapore to Hong Kong, and all over Europe, this event saw the largest number of windsurfers in the history of the T293 European Championship, now in its eighth year, with more than 300 athletes aged 13 to 16 years from 27 countries.

For many athletes, the event has a double value: in addition to the results here, the European Championship was the final stage of qualifying for the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. For the Americans, having qualified to the Youth Olympics already in the North Americans in Cancun, this event was more a measure against the best to keep preparing towards the Worlds in Brest in July and the YOG in China in August.

Slowly but surely, as the preferred class for youth keeps growing in numbers and in countries participating…so does the competitiveness of the Americans.

For the first time, an American took a podium slot in this European championships. Geronimo Nores was second place in U15.

Five days of racing, with predominant strong winds on the range of 10-18+ knots made their success much more enjoyable since the Miami sailors are more known for their light wind skills.

'We will have to keep working in all conditions for the worlds in Brest (France)' said Geronimo Nores 'because in Brest we can expect any wind and rumors say there are more than 550 racers registered... And that will be even a bigger fight' he added.
