Act 3 of the 2014 Extreme Sailing Series is set to take place 1-4 May in Qingdao, China. Team GAC Pindar has named talented young sailor David Gilmour as skipper for the Act.

22-year-old David, son of America’s Cup veteran Peter Gilmour, will take over the reins from fellow Australian Seve Jarvin as the team focuses on securing its first race victory. Jarvin will return to the Series later in the year. Gilmour made his Stadium Racing debut for GAC Pindar in Act 2 in Oman. He will be joined in China by experienced America’s Cup sailors, Sam Newton, Ed Smyth, Troy Tindill and 2013 18ft Female Skiff World Champion Alexandra South.

GAC Pindar Principal Andrew Pindar says: 'One of the reasons behind the Team GAC Pindar / Team Australia partnership for the 2014 Extreme Sailing Series is our shared focus on developing the next generation of high level sailing talent. David is a great example of such talent and we are delighted to welcome him to our crew.'

Iain Murray, CEO of Team Australia, adds: 'During the Extreme Sailing Series it’s likely everyone in Team GAC Pindar / Team Australia will be rotated. This certainly won’t be the last change during the series, as we want to expose the crew to different combinations, team cultures and structure. Australia is fortunate enough to have a lot of talented young sailors and we want to give them an opportunity to sail during this regatta.'

Gilmour, who won the ISAF Nations Cup in 2013 and will compete on the 2014 World Match Racing Tour, says: 'I’m thrilled to be skipper for the Qingdao Extreme Sailing Series event, I really enjoyed racing with the team in Oman and learnt a lot from Seve and the crew. GAC Pindar has made steady progress over the first two Acts, and I hope to build on that and continue to improve on our results in GAC Extreme Sailing Series
