Round Hayling Island Windsurf Race - Victory for Robert Kent

by Hayling Island Sailing Club on 23 Apr 2014
Round Hayling Island Windsurf Race 2014 Neil Shawcross, HISC member
A wonderful sunny Good Friday greeted the 80 plus competitors for the annual Round Hayling Island Windsurf and Paddle Board Race organized by Hayling Island Sailing Club.

Competitors face a number of challenges in this historic race, including navigating under the road bridge that links the island to the mainland, sailing through the remnants of the old railway bridge as well as battling through the narrow entrance to Langstone Harbour before the long grueling slog across the seafront to complete the race at Hayling Island Sailing Club.

This year’s event saw over 40 windsurfers complete the race and the overall winner was Robert Kent of Calshot Activity Centre, with his wife Annette taking honours in the women’s section.

Race organizer John Rees commented, 'This year’s event was a tough race, the easterly wind conditions meant that the sailors had to work really hard, but we had a great day and hopefully next year we will see even more finish.'

Hayling Island Sailing Club is an RYA centre of excellence and is home to some of the best sailing in the UK.
