ISAF Sailing World Cup Mallorca 2014 - Cool and light start

SWC Palma Belcher and Ryan - ISAF Sailing World Cup Mallorca Australian Sailing
At the ISAF Sailing World Cup Mallorca 2014 in Mallorca, Spain, racing is set for a cool and light wind start.

The glamorous sea breeze the 1,130 sailors from 55 nations were treated to in training sessions in advance of the regatta have momentarily passed making it a chilly opening day.

A south west breeze is expected to come in around 13:00 local time bringing 4-5 knots and 14?C with it.

On the day ahead 2013 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year, Mat Belcher (AUS), 'The forecast is not for much wind this morning but it will shift back around to the south west, the usual sea breeze direction so I think we’ll wait for the fog to clear and get some racing in pretty soon.'

For Belcher and his crew Will Ryan racing on the Echo course they don’t expect it to be too shifty, 'It depends on the course you’re racing on. We’re pretty fortunate we’re on one of the outer courses so once the breeze develops we expect it to be steady rather than some of the inshore course.'

The split Men’s RS:X fleet commence racing at 11:00 local time and share the Charlie race area with the Women’s RS:X fleet. Both fleets will sail three races.

Three fleets of 48-boats will race in the Laser on Delta and commence their first of three races at 11:00. The two Laser Radial fleets are scheduled for three races with their first start at 13:00 on Charlie.

The Men’s 470 are divided into two fleets and share the Echo race course with the Women’s 470. Both fleets are scheduled to sail three races.

Racing in the Finn will be on the Foxtrot area, the Nacra 17 will be on Bravo and the 49er on Alpha. All fleets are divided into two with 11:00 the first start time.

2.4mR racing will commence at 12:00 on the Golf area.

Two fleets of 49erFX racers will be the last to start racing in Mallorca with a scheduled start time of 14:00.
