RYA Regional Youth Champion Award winners announced

At the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show today (02 March 2014) the spotlight was turned on some of the UK’s most promising young sailors, windsurfers and powerboaters as the first ever winners of the RYA Regional Youth Champion Awards were revealed.

The awards were presented by the British Sailing Team’s Dylan Fletcher and recognise the outstanding achievement and performance of young people across the range of activities the RYA represents.

The RYA Regional Youth Champions winners are:
Thames Valley: Leila Moore
Eastern: Bryony Bennett-Lloyd and Annabel Cattermole
North East: Ben Russell
South East: Ross Banham
South West: Bella Fellows
Scotland: Gillies Munro and Daniel Harris
North West: Hannah Bristow
Northern Ireland: Liam Glynn
East Midlands: Ellie Craig
Southern: Anthony Parke
Yorkshire and Humberside: Reanna Wilson
West Midlands: Kieran Martin
Wales: Ellie Meopham

Dylan Fletcher commented: 'It was great to be here to meet everyone and to present these inaugural awards. It’s really important to recognise people on every level and these youngsters are all so passionate about their sport and they all put in the extra effort'.

Ellie Craig, RYA East Midlands winner added: 'It felt really good to be recognised for my sailing and it’s also fantastic publicity for my club, they are really proud of me. I love the challenges that the sport presents and the feeling you get when you do well in sailing'.

SailGP: Spain win in New York - Day 2
Diego Botin's Spanish crew scraped into the Final, and then took their second successive SailGP win. The Spanish crew led by Diego Botin staged a comeback in the last race after losing an 8pt lead to squeeze into the Final, only taking the lead halfway through the three boat Final.
