Multihull Central announces Outremer 5X superyacht syndicate

by Brent Vaughan on 29 Jan 2014
Outremer 5X Wins Boat of the Year Multihull Central
Cruising World, premiere sailing magazine of the United States, has announced the Outremer 5X as the best Full-Sized Multihull Over 50 Feet in their prestigious Boat of the Year awards for 2014. To celebrate the occasion the Australian distributors for Outremer, Multihull Central, have announced a first of a kind Outremer 5X Superyacht Syndicate.

The Outremer 5X fought off competition from two other French nominees, including the Lagoon 52 and the Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67 to take out the coveted Boat of the Year Award, confirming Outremer’s place as one of the world’s most innovative multihull manufacturers.

Only a year ago the Outremer 5X was awarded the European Yacht of the Year making the 5X one of the most awarded production catamaran available.

The 5X was a culmination of design influences from a 'Dream Team' assembled by Outremer Yachting, including VPLP for Naval Architecture (responsible for designing the winning 2012 Americas Cup trimaran), Franck Darnet for Interior Design, Michel Dejoyeaux for deck layout (two time winner of the Vendee Globe) and Patrick le Quement for quality design (formally Renault Management). This combination of influence resulted in an elegant and cleverly designed ocean going catamaran with a high performance pedigree.

Outremer are distributed in Australia by Multihull Central based on Sydney Harbour, with seven sales agents around the country. Multihull Central’s Managing Director, Brent Vaughan, shares his enthusiasm of the announcement, 'The 5X is a truly beautiful yacht to sail and be onboard, so I’m not surprised at all that this design has been awarded Boat of the Year,' and he continues, 'The Outremer team are true professionals and are very deserving of such high accolades.'

The Outremer 5X retails for A$1.57 million ex factory in France (taxes excluded), or about A$1.93 million delivered to Australia including shipping, duty and GST, making the boat very competitive in its class.

The new syndicate however will only cost A$333,125 (excluding taxes) per one by sixth share providing eight weeks of use per year onboard, with a full time professional skipper who will navigate the catamaran back to Australia over a 12 month period. The syndicate will cruise the Mediterranean, then join the ARC rally across the Atlantic down to the Caribbean. Then through the Panama Canal and onto the Galapagos Islands, Bora Bora, Tonga, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and back to Sydney where it will continue cruising expeditions for the following four years.

'We have syndicated 15 other cruising catamarans and this is the most exciting to date,' Brent explains, 'It offers incredible value and a once in a life time opportunity to cruise the world, regardless of the experience level of the owners, onboard one of the world’s most exciting Multihull Central
