The Corinthian Yacht Club of San Francisco (CYC) and the Bay Area Racing Federation (BARF) are happy to reveal the second Annual Rob Moore Memorial Regatta (Robgatta), to be held on February 15, 2014 in conjunction with CYC’s popular Midwinter Race Series. The Robgatta will honor Rob’s legacy in the San Francisco Bay sailing community with a day of competitive racing for one-design and PHRF fleets, a distinguished panel of speakers, live and silent auctions to benefit the National Lung Cancer Partnership, trophies and other fun prizes, and a buffet dinner.
Our exciting panel of speakers, fresh from their respective 34th America’s Cup duties include: John Craig (Principal Race Officer); Stan Honey (Director of Technology and three-time Emmy winner); Kurt Jordan (Engineer, structural design and analysis for Oracle Team USA); and Dee Smith (Local knowledge for Emirates Team New Zealand). They will share their experiences and thoughts on the future, and will take audience questions.
For decades, Rob Moore was a larger-than-life influence on sailing in the Bay Area, Rob's adopted home. As racing editor for Latitude 38, the region's leading sailing publication, and as an avid racer and race officer, Rob encouraged countless sailors to participate ever more enthusiastically in our sport.
Rob was only 58 years old when he succumbed to lung cancer two years ago. He was among the nearly 20% of lung cancer victims with no history of smoking. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer, taking more lives each year than breast, colon, pancreatic, and prostate combined. The Robgatta supports the National Lung Cancer Partnership’s mission to decrease deaths due to lung cancer and to help patients live longer and better through research, awareness and advocacy.
