Australian Paper Tiger Nationals - Growing Tasmanian fleet gain ground

Recently returned from the Paper Tiger National Championships in Victoria the five strong Tasmanian contingent were pleasantly surprised by their showing which saw three boats make the top ten. Normally the domain of Victorian and New South Wales sailors the top ten is a hard nut to crack but with the resurgent class regularly achieving fleets in the high teens and twenties in Hobart the standard continues to rise.
Lead by four time national champion Bruce Rose (third overall) great results by Tasmanian Class President Sean Keady (9th overall and 'B' grade champion) and Steve Price (10th overall and 'C' grade champion) show the fleet is heading in the right direction. 'The standard down here is great, every week our club races are like national championships' said Keady. 'The class is pumping and with a number of new and returning skippers bolstering the fleet we are confident that we’ll do even better at the next nationals.'
The 2015 national championships are to be held in the fleet’s home waters of Fredrick Henry Bay out of the Lauderdale Yacht Club and with strong interest from Victoria and South Australia the event is likely to attract more than 50 boats.
