Newcastle to Stephens Yacht Race – It’s on again!

2014 Auto Advantage Newcastle Port to Stephens Yacht Race, to be held on 6th April 2014, entries have opened.

Matt Fensom’s Farr, 40 Long Time Dead, was quick off the mark entering the 2014 edition of the Newcastle to Port Stephens coastal dash only hours after entries opened yesterday. It is believed that Fensom is interested in taking off where sister yacht John McNamara’s Iota, also berthed at NCYC, left the race last year after stamping a dominance on the 2013 race on both IRC and line honors.

The Auto Advantage Newcastle to Port Stephens Race has become usual suspect on the NSW keel boat racing calendar as a result of the races close links with RPAYC’s Pittwater to Newcastle race held the day prior and both races feeding yachts from Sydney and Newcastle into the Sail Port Stephens Regatta held later the same week.

Last year’s light conditions saw the race finished at the Point Stephens gate, an initiative that was included in the sailing instructions to ensure a race was guaranteed notwithstanding the light and at times variable conditions that can be experienced late in the sailing season.
